The Gendarme and the Gendarmettes

The Gendarme and the Gendarmettes (Le Gendarme et les Gendarmettes, 1982) is a French comedy starring Louis de Funès that you can watch online on iFILM. Four young women arrive as trainees at the Saint-Tropez station, and the whole male squad promptly forgets it has a job to do.

Cruchot and his men trip over each other trying to mentor the recruits, run drills around the clock and turn the precinct into a circus. Their furious wives demand the newcomers be sent packing. Then the trainees start vanishing — hauled off one by one in a black car, no ransom demanded — and Cruchot is given a single day to get them all back or lose his post for good.

This is the sixth and final entry in the Saint-Tropez gendarme series, and the last de Funès film released in his lifetime. Michel Galabru is back at his side, along with France Rumilly as the ever-devout Sister Clotilde.
