Synopsis
Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez (1964) is the French comedy you can watch online on iFILM, built around the rubber-faced genius of Louis de Funès. Newly promoted officer Cruchot arrives in the sunny Riviera resort with his teenage daughter Nicole. The town's quiet days are over.
Cruchot throws himself into police work with a zeal that torments everyone nearby. His obsession is the local nudists who keep swimming in the buff, and he chases them across the beaches with manic determination. Meanwhile there's a stolen museum painting and a gang of crooks to deal with. Nicole, for her part, lies to her wealthy friends that her dad is a millionaire with a yacht, forcing Cruchot to play along. De Funès is the whole engine here: the grimaces, the rapid-fire scolding, the boss forever boiling over.
