Synopsis
Case départ (2011) is a French time-travel comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Two squabbling half-brothers of Antillean descent get hurled two centuries back into the age of slavery.
Joël is broke, jobless and convinced France is rotten with racism. His half-brother Régis has done the opposite, blending into comfortable middle-class life and wanting nothing to do with where the family came from. The only thing they share is a late father they barely knew, who left them a single inheritance: a document freeing a distant ancestor from bondage. They tear it up in anger. Bad move. A mysterious aunt punishes the sacrilege by dropping both men into the 18th century, where they're promptly sold at a slave market and forced to cooperate just to survive long enough to find a way home.
Fabrice Eboué and Thomas Ngijol wrote, directed and starred in the film, which became a genuine box-office hit in France. The humor is deliberately crude, mining slavery and racism for jokes that play fast and loose with good taste. It's one for viewers who like their comedy provocative and unafraid.
