Synopsis
The Marching Band (En fanfare, 2024) is a French dramedy from director Emmanuel Courcol that you can watch online on iFILM. Thibaut conducts orchestras across Europe and lives by tour dates and applause. Then leukemia forces a bone-marrow search that uncovers a buried fact: he was adopted.
That search leads him to Jimmy, a factory worker in a small northern town who plays trombone in the local amateur brass band. Separated as small children, the brothers grew into opposites. One speaks in scores and tempos; the other says exactly what he thinks. Pierre Lottin and Benjamin Lavernhe play the slow thaw between them without sentimentality, letting awkward silences and shared rehearsals do the work. A regional band competition gives the two men a reason to keep showing up.
Courcol turns a story about class and blood ties into something the music carries better than dialogue ever could. It took the audience award at Cannes and rewards anyone who likes warmth that never tips into syrup. Stream The Marching Band (2024) online on iFILM.
