City of the Living Dead

City of the Living Dead (Paura nella città dei morti viventi, 1980) is Lucio Fulci's Italian horror film, free to watch online on iFILM. In the town of Dunwich, a priest hangs himself in a cemetery and tears open the gates of Hell.

During a séance in New York, the medium Mary collapses, seemingly dead, after a vision of the corpses rising. Reporter Peter Bell (Christopher George) digs into the story and drives out to Dunwich with a revived Mary (Catriona MacColl). They have until All Saints' Day to shut the portal. Miss the deadline, and the dead inherit the world.

Fulci is after nightmare logic, not plot mechanics: zombies that materialize out of thin air, weeping blood, a maggot storm, one of the most notorious gore scenes of the era.
