Synopsis
Zombie Flesh Eaters (Zombi 2, 1979) is Lucio Fulci's cult Italian gut-muncher, and you can watch online on iFILM. A drifting yacht slips into New York harbor with no crew aboard. The officers who climb on are met by a bloated corpse that gets back up — and the nightmare is off.
Reporter Peter West and Anne, daughter of the boat's missing owner, follow the trail to the tropical island of Matul, where her scientist father had been studying a strange sickness. What they find isn't an outbreak so much as ground that refuses to keep its dead. Fulci takes his time, letting heat and rot build before he detonates the set pieces — the infamous splinter-through-the-eye and the diver-versus-shark underwater fight that became genre legend.
Made as an unofficial follow-up to Romero's Dawn of the Dead, it set the template for late-'70s Italian gore: Giannetto De Rossi's caked makeup, Fabio Frizzi's uneasy score, sweltering jungle instead of a shopping mall.
