Synopsis

Dog Day Afternoon (1975) is Sidney Lumet's crime drama with Al Pacino, free to watch online on iFILM. On a sweltering August afternoon two amateurs walk into a Brooklyn bank to rob it.

Sonny (Pacino) figured he'd be gone in ten minutes. Instead the vault is nearly empty, the phone won't stop ringing, and the street outside fills with squad cars, news cameras and a crowd that cheers and jeers by turns. The robbery curdles into a hostage siege broadcast live across the city. His quiet partner Sal (John Cazale) clutches a shotgun and looks lost in it all. And the real reason Sonny pulled the job turns out to be far more personal than any heist playbook would predict.

The script grew out of a true 1972 robbery pulled by John Wojtowicz, and Frank Pierson won an Academy Award for it. Pacino and Cazale give one of the rawest pairings of 1970s American film, with Charles Durning as the cop on the bullhorn. Stream Dog Day Afternoon (1975) online on iFILM.
