Narvik

Young soldier Gunnar heads into the mountains to hold the line, while his wife Ingrid stays behind in occupied Narvik with their small son and her father-in-law. She speaks German, so the occupiers press her into translating — trapping her between loyalty and keeping her family alive. As the town changes hands again and again, Allied ships and Norwegian troops fight desperately for a port the German command cannot afford to lose. The camera stays close to two people whose choices cost far too much.

Skjoldbjærg, who made the original 1997 Insomnia, mounted one of the most expensive Norwegian productions to date and revived an episode remembered at home as the first crack in the blitzkrieg.
