Aksel Hennie plays the real Max Manus, a resistance fighter who spent the occupation years sabotaging Nazi ships and slipping through Gestapo dragnets in the streets of occupied Oslo.

Manus was in his twenties when German forces arrived. He crossed into Finland to fight in the Winter War, came back, got shot, jumped out a second-floor window to escape arrest, and eventually built one of the most effective sabotage cells in Norway. Agnes Kittelsen and Nicolai Cleve Broch co-star in a story that balances action with the cost of it — the friends buried along the way, the love found in the middle of the war.
