Synopsis
The Wonder (2022) is a brooding mystery drama with Florence Pugh you can watch online on iFILM. Ireland, 1862, a few years after the Great Famine. English nurse Lib Wright is summoned to a remote village to verify a strange claim: an eleven-year-old girl has reportedly gone four months without food.
Anna O'Donnell insists she is fed by manna from heaven, and the locals read it as holiness, flocking to gawk at the child. Lib and a nun take turns at the bedside to catch the trick. Yet the longer the nurse watches, the clearer it becomes that something dark hides behind the gentle miracle, while Lib's own grief makes it impossible to sit calmly beside a starving girl. The film is slow and airless on purpose, its tension built from faith, guilt and the stubborn silence of adults.
Chilean director Sebastián Lelio adapted it from the novel by Emma Donoghue, who wrote Room. Pugh carries the picture on restrained fury rather than spectacle, and an unusual framing device that speaks straight to the viewer turns the story into a meditation on what we believe and why. One for fans of unsettling, unhurried drama. Stream The Wonder (2022) online on iFILM.
