About

Synopsis

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) — watch online on iFILM: Miloš Forman's landmark drama starring Jack Nicholson as Randle McMurphy, a defiant man who lands in a psychiatric ward and immediately locks horns with the steely Nurse Ratched, played by Louise Fletcher.

McMurphy may or may not be faking insanity to dodge a prison sentence. What matters is that he sees the ward's residents as people, not patients — and starts treating them that way. Brad Dourif is the fragile Billy Bibbit, Will Sampson the silent Chief Bromden, Christopher Lloyd the agitated Taber. As McMurphy pulls them back toward something like life, Ratched tightens her grip. The clash between these two is the whole film.

Adapted from Ken Kesey's 1962 novel and produced by a then-unknown Michael Douglas, the picture swept five Academy Awards at the 1976 ceremony — Picture, Director, Actor, Actress and Adapted Screenplay. Only one other film in Oscar history has done the same. Stream One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) online on iFILM.
