Synopsis
Family Life (1971) is a British social drama by Ken Loach you can watch online on iFILM. Sandy Ratcliff plays Janice, a nineteen-year-old who wants to live on her own terms — something her parents treat as a symptom to be managed.
Her parents are not cruel in any obvious way. They don't shout. They worry, insist, and make decisions for Janice when she won't comply: first an abortion, then psychiatric care. Bill Dean and Grace Cave play them with a quiet, suffocating certainty that they know best.
Loach shot the film in a near-documentary style, drawing on his earlier television play Wednesday's Child. What makes it stay with you is that no one here is a villain — just people doing damage within the rules. Stream Family Life (1971) on iFILM.
