Synopsis
Sorry We Missed You (2019) is Ken Loach's social-realist drama, available to watch online on iFILM. It follows the Turners, a working family in the north of England still buried under debt that piled up after the 2008 crash.
Ricky signs on to drive a delivery van as a self-employed franchisee. It sounds like a way out, but it works more like a trap: fourteen-hour shifts, penalties for every missed slot, and a handheld scanner that tracks his every move. To cover the deposit on the van, his wife Abby sells her car, leaving her to reach her own care-work clients by bus with no time off. The kids are left alone more and more. The harder the parents push, the faster the family frays. Kris Hitchen and Debbie Honeywood, both first-time actors, give it a documentary honesty.
Loach refuses easy villains. The damage comes from the gig economy itself, a system built to dump all the risk onto one person. It's a hard, clear-eyed watch that changes how you see the courier at your own door. For anyone who wants cinema that hurts rather than soothes. Stream Sorry We Missed You (2019) online on iFILM.
