About

Synopsis

I'm Not Scared (Io non ho paura, 2003) is an Italian thriller from director Gabriele Salvatores, free to watch online on iFILM. It's the scorched summer of the 1970s in the rural south, and ten-year-old Michele spends his days racing a bike through endless wheat fields with the other kids.

Then, near a crumbling farmhouse, he finds a hole in the ground with a boy chained inside it. Michele brings him bread and water and keeps the secret to himself. Slowly the truth surfaces: the captive is Filippo, taken for ransom, and the men behind it are grown-ups from Michele's own village. His own father is one of them. The story is told entirely from a child's eye level, which is exactly what makes the dread cut so deep.

Adapted by Niccolò Ammaniti from his own novel, the film lets cinematographer Italo Petriccione turn the fields of Puglia into a shimmering, almost hallucinatory landscape. If you want a coming-of-age story that doubles as a slow-burn kidnap mystery, this one earns its quiet reputation. Stream I'm Not Scared (2003) online on iFILM.
