One day he's a groom at a stranger's wedding, the next a reporter interviewing an aging actor, then a father to a grade-school girl. He plays the parts mechanically at first. Soon he can't tell where the assignment ends and real affection begins.

Hikari builds the film around Japan's genuine rent-a-family industry and turns it into a question about loneliness and whether warmth can be bought. Fraser is soft and fumbling here, a long way from the action roles he's known for. A quiet movie for anyone who likes their funny and their sad walking side by side.
