Mystery Men (1999) is the superhero spoof you can watch online on iFILM. Champion City has always counted on the dazzling Captain Amazing to save the day. The trouble starts when the one who needs saving is Captain Amazing himself.

After supervillain Casanova Frankenstein (Geoffrey Rush) kidnaps the city's star, the job falls to a crew nobody ever took seriously. Mr. Furious (Ben Stiller) draws power from fits of rage that accomplish almost nothing. The Shoveler (William H. Macy) fights with a shovel. The Blue Raja (Hank Azaria) hurls forks and, on principle, refuses to throw knives. A few equally hopeless recruits tag along — long on stubbornness, short on actual superpowers.

Ad director Kinka Usher's only feature assembled a wild bench: Greg Kinnear, Janeane Garofalo, Paul Reubens, even Tom Waits in a small turn. The movie was poking holes in blockbuster self-importance two decades before that pomposity wore everyone down. Best for fans of absurd humor and lovable losers.
