Synopsis
Atlanta (2016) is the FX series you can watch online on iFILM. Donald Glover created it, wrote it and stars in it, with longtime collaborator Hiro Murai directing most episodes.
Earn dropped out of Princeton and has no money, drifting between his parents' place and other people's couches. His cousin Alfred, rapping as Paper Boi, puts out a track that suddenly catches fire across the city. Earn talks his way into managing him, and the two try to claw their way up through Atlanta's music scene. Around them orbit Darius (Lakeith Stanfield), a stoned, gentle philosopher, and Van (Zazie Beetz), the mother of Earn's daughter, who has her own reckoning with him and with everything else.
This isn't a tidy rags-to-riches arc. Glover works in loose, surreal vignettes about money, race, fame and the strangeness of Black life in the South, sliding from deadpan comedy into something close to horror — one episode is a full fake talk show. The first season alone took home a Golden Globe and two Emmy Awards. Murai's hypnotic camerawork and a killer soundtrack make Atlanta one of the strangest, sharpest shows of its decade.
