Synopsis
Loving (2016) is Jeff Nichols' drama you can watch online on iFILM. It follows a Virginia couple whose marriage the state branded a crime for one reason: he was white and she was Black.
The late fifties. Richard and Mildred wed, but local law forbids unions like theirs, and one night the county sheriff barges straight into their bedroom. The two are arrested, banished from the place they grew up, and kept years from home and family. They don't march or give speeches. They just want to live together where they belong. A letter Mildred writes to the capital sets off the case that climbs to the nation's highest court and rewrites the constitutional right to marry.
Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga play it quiet and restrained, and Negga's turn as Mildred was up for an Academy Award. Nichols deliberately sidesteps courtroom grandstanding: the camera mostly stays out of the chamber and lingers in the kitchen, the yard, beside these soft-spoken people. An understated, deeply human film for anyone worn out by loud biopics. Stream Loving (2016) online on iFILM.
