Synopsis
The Majestic (2001) is a drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Frank Darabont — the filmmaker behind The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. Jim Carrey plays Peter Appleton, a Hollywood screenwriter who survives a car crash with no memory and drifts into the small California town of Lawson, where the locals are convinced he is Luke Trimble, a beloved son who never came home from World War II.
Peter steps into Luke's life, befriends Luke's aging father Harry, played by Martin Landau, and falls for the woman who spent years waiting for the soldier she loved. The biggest act of the film is restoring Lawson's shuttered movie palace, the Majestic itself — a project that slowly revives the whole town. Set squarely in 1951, during the Red Scare and HUAC hearings, the story frames Peter's amnesia against a nation also unsure of its own identity.
Darabont wrote a deliberately old-fashioned tribute to Hollywood's golden age — unhurried, sentimental, running 152 minutes. Lori Holden, Hal Holbrook, and James Whitmore round out a cast that leans into the picture's warmth without apology. Watch The Majestic online on iFILM.
