Synopsis
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2022) is a musical comedy you can watch online on iFILM. It is a biopic of parody king "Weird Al" Yankovic that is itself a parody of every music biopic ever made. Daniel Radcliffe plays the accordion-wielding hitmaker, and almost everything on screen is a gleeful lie.
Young Alfred dreams of rewriting other people's lyrics, but his stern father calls the accordion an embarrassment and wants him on a factory floor. He cuts a spoof of "My Sharona" called "My Bologna," gets it on the radio, and the film rockets off into overnight stardom, a wild affair with Madonna (Evan Rachel Wood), drug binges, shootouts and mentorship from Dr. Demento (Rainn Wilson). The real life story gets turned inside out, with the movie inventing nearly every detail and playing it dead straight.
Director Eric Appel grew the film from a Funny or Die short, and Yankovic co-wrote the script, so the gags land where they should. The cast is stuffed with cameos, Lin-Manuel Miranda among them.
