Shrek

Shrek (2001) is DreamWorks Animation's fairy-tale-in-reverse — watch online on iFILM. Directors Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson flipped every genre rule: the hero is a grumpy green ogre who wants nothing more than his swamp to himself, and the quest he ends up on is the last thing he'd choose.

When the petty Lord Farquaad (voiced by John Lithgow) dumps every fairytale creature in the kingdom onto Shrek's land, the ogre strikes a deal to get it back. He'll rescue Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) from a dragon-guarded tower — and he'll have to drag along Donkey (Eddie Murphy), a motormouth companion who is absolutely not shutting up. Mike Myers gives Shrek a Scottish burr and a surprisingly large amount of heart.

Released in 2001 on a $60 million budget, the film grossed nearly $489 million worldwide and took home the very first Academy Award for Best Animated Feature ever given.
