About

Synopsis

UHF (1989) is an American comedy you can watch online on iFILM. George Newman is a daydreamer with no career prospects and a head full of wild ideas. When his uncle wins a run-down UHF television station in a poker game, George ends up as manager of Channel 62 — the one nobody watches.

He launches the strangest lineup imaginable, and somehow the ratings climb. "Weird Al" Yankovic stars and co-wrote both the screenplay and the soundtrack, making UHF essentially a feature-length extension of his comedy worldview. Michael Richards — Kramer before Seinfeld existed — steals scenes as a mop-wielding janitor who accidentally becomes the host of the best children's show on local TV. Meanwhile a powerful rival network wants Channel 62 gone.

The film landed softly in theaters in 1989 but became a cult item on VHS, beloved for its rapid-fire movie parodies — Indiana Jones, Rambo, Gandhi — and its commitment to pure absurdist chaos. Directed by Jay Levey, UHF has only grown a bigger fan base with time. Stream UHF (1989) in full on iFILM.
