Synopsis
Bad Lieutenant (1992) is Abel Ferrara's crime drama starring Harvey Keitel, and you can watch it online on iFILM. The nameless New York detective at its center crossed every line long ago. He deals confiscated heroin, robs the people who rob others, snorts and shoots up on the job, and gambles away cash that was never his on the baseball playoffs. The badge is just permission to take whatever he wants.
His betting debts swell with every game he loses, and then a case lands on his desk: a young nun raped at the altar of her own church. He picks it up for the reward money at first. But the victim has already forgiven her attackers, and that incomprehensible act of mercy starts eating at what's left of his rotting soul harder than any drug.
The movie is often called a pure Keitel showcase, and he plays a man's collapse with no safety net and no self-pity, including scenes few actors would touch. Ferrara made an almost unbearable film about despair and the faint chance of redemption, a cult title precisely because it never blinks. Not for the squeamish.
