Synopsis

Caché (2005), also known as Hidden, is Michael Haneke's psychological thriller, available to watch online on iFILM. A videotape turns up on a Paris doorstep one morning. It holds hours of footage of the family's own front facade.

Georges (Daniel Auteuil), host of a TV books program, and his wife Anne (Juliette Binoche) have no idea who is filming them or why. More tapes arrive, now wrapped with crude child's drawings smeared in red. The police shrug — technically, no crime has occurred. As the recordings grow more intimate, Georges starts to suspect the sender reaches back into his own childhood, into something shameful he buried decades ago and never spoke of again.

Haneke shoots in long, static, music-free takes, until you the viewer become the one doing the spying. Underneath the domestic dread sits a sharp argument about French guilt toward Algerians and how conveniently a society forgets what it would rather not face. The ending hands you no tidy solution; people still debate that final shot. This one rewards patience and a willingness to do the thinking yourself. Stream Caché (2005) online on iFILM.
