The Man Who Knew Too Much

They snatch his son to buy his silence, and the McKennas chase the truth from North Africa to London, where everything comes down to a single gunshot timed to a cymbal crash at the Royal Albert Hall. James Stewart and Doris Day carry the film as parents far out of their depth.

Hitchcock remade his own 1934 British picture here, bigger and tighter, with a famous set piece built entirely around an orchestral cue. Doris Day's song "Que Sera, Sera" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, and composer Bernard Herrmann appears on screen conducting the climax.
