Synopsis
Funny Games (2008) is Michael Haneke's psychological thriller you can watch online on iFILM. A family of three settles into a lakeside vacation house. Two polite young men in white gloves knock at the door, asking to borrow some eggs. What follows is a long, deliberate nightmare.
Naomi Watts plays Ann, Tim Roth her husband George, and their young son becomes a pawn in a stranger's cruel game. The intruders, played by Michael Pitt and Brady Corbet, never hide their faces or explain themselves. They offer the family a bet: will any of them be alive by morning. Haneke keeps most of the violence off-screen and lets your imagination do the worst work. One of the men keeps glancing straight into the camera, as if speaking to you directly.
This is a shot-for-shot remake of Haneke's own 1997 Austrian film, relocated to America with the same icy precision. It competed at the Cannes Film Festival and still splits viewers between those who read it as a statement against screen violence and those who feel taunted by it. Do not expect a comfortable sit.
