Synopsis
Saved! (2004) is a sharp teen satire from director Brian Dannelly that you can watch online on iFILM. Model Christian-school student Mary learns her boyfriend might be gay, tries to "save" him in the most literal way possible, and ends up pregnant.
Mary is played by Jena Malone, and her perfect little world falls apart fast. Instead of support she gets shunned by Hilary Faye, played by Mandy Moore, the school's reigning queen of righteousness, who leads a clique of devout girls and parades her wheelchair-using brother Roland, played by Macaulay Culkin, more for show than out of love. Mary drifts toward the outcasts: sardonic Jewish transfer student Cassandra, that same Roland, and the pastor's easygoing son. Under all the talk of faith and purity, these kids figure out what actually being good looks like.
The film aims its jokes at hypocrisy rather than belief itself, riding on a witty script and a loaded young cast that also includes Eva Amurri, Patrick Fugit, Heather Matarazzo and Mary-Louise Parker. It's pointed, warm and surprisingly humane, especially for anyone raised around double standards. Stream Saved! (2004) online on iFILM.
