Bottoms

Bottoms (2023) is a high school comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Emma Seligman and starring Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri, it follows two unpopular seniors who hatch an absurd scheme: start a self-defense club so they can finally meet girls and lose their virginity before graduation.

PJ and Josie pretend they did time in juvie and pull classmates in to punch each other "for empowerment." The plan works far too well. The most popular cheerleaders start brawling in the gym, and the lie balloons past anything the two can keep covered. The closer it gets to the finale, the more unhinged it turns, with blood, fireworks and a ridiculous payoff.

Seligman and Sennott, who made the tense indie Shiva Baby, swerve hard into satire and pure absurdity with no interest in realism. It's a queer comedy that mocks teen movies while gleefully rolling around in their clichés. Stream Bottoms (2023) online on iFILM.
