A British schoolboy and a soldier with a coalition unit in Afghanistan round out the cast. For a long stretch the five threads never touch, and that distance is exactly what makes the dread build.

Created by Simon Kinberg and David Weil, with directors including Jakob Verbruggen and Alik Sakharov, the series treats an alien arrival as grief and confusion rather than spectacle.
