Firefly (Season 1)

Firefly (2002) is Joss Whedon's one-season sci-fi series you can watch online on iFILM. Set five hundred years from now, the show drops you into a galaxy where humanity has spread across dozens of worlds but the frontier still runs on muscle and nerve. Captain Malcolm Reynolds — played by Nathan Fillion — lost a war against the ruling Alliance and now hauls cargo on a beat-up Firefly-class transport called Serenity.

His crew is nine people who have no business working together: a mercenary, a preacher, a ship's mechanic, a doctor on the run, and his sister River, who carries a secret that puts everyone in danger. Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, Jewel Staite, and Summer Glau fill out the ensemble. Each episode sends them to a new backwater planet, a new job gone sideways, a new run-in with bounty hunters or the Alliance military.

Fox cancelled the show after 14 episodes. Fans campaigned hard enough that Universal greenlit a feature film, Serenity, in 2005. The series remains a benchmark for character-driven space drama. Stream all episodes of Firefly online on iFILM.
