Synopsis

Black Sea (2014) is Kevin Macdonald's submarine thriller starring Jude Law, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Laid off after a lifetime underwater, a salvage captain takes a shadowy offer: a sunken German U-boat rests on the floor of the Black Sea, and rumor says it's packed with gold.

Robinson assembles a half-British, half-Russian crew and steers a rusting old sub toward the wreck. The payout splits evenly across the men, so every one of them does the math fast: fewer survivors means a bigger share. Sealed in cramped compartments with no radio and no way out, greed and fear start cracking the mission long before the hull does. The crew includes Ben Mendelsohn and Scoot McNairy, with Konstantin Khabensky and Grigoriy Dobrygin on the Russian side.

Macdonald, who made The Last King of Scotland, shot inside a real submarine, and the claustrophobia gets under your skin. This is a grim, unglamorous film about men the system threw overboard, heavy in all the honest ways. If you like tense, sealed-room stories in the vein of Das Boot, climb in.
