Legionnaire

Legionnaire (1998) is Peter MacDonald's action-adventure starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Boxer Alain Lefevre is paid by a Marseille mobster to throw a fight. He wins instead, grabs the gangster's girlfriend, and tries to bolt for America.

That escape collapses fast. With killers on his trail, Lefevre signs up for the French Foreign Legion and ends up at a forgotten outpost deep in the North African desert. Drills, blistering heat, and a brutal lieutenant named Steinkampf greet him. He slowly bonds with fellow recruits Luther, Mackintosh and Rosetti — but the mob hasn't forgotten the man who crossed them.

Skip the flashy martial-arts showcases you might expect from Van Damme; this one leans on survival, soldierly brotherhood, and a tense fort siege to close things out. The cast includes Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Steven Berkoff and Jim Carter. A sturdy, old-school war picture built on dust, sweat and a code of honor rather than spectacle.
