Synopsis

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) is the classic MGM musical-western you can watch online on iFILM. Singin', dancin', romancin', and a whole lot of backwoods chaos from director Stanley Donen.

It is 1850s Oregon. Adam (Howard Keel), the eldest of seven rough-and-tumble logger brothers, rides into town and comes home with a wife, the quick-witted Milly (Jane Powell). She soon learns what she signed up for: six brothers-in-law who have never met a fork or a bar of soap. Once the younger men get a taste of Adam's married life, they decide they want brides of their own, which leads to a brazen kidnapping raid on the nearby town.

The real star is Michael Kidd's choreography. That famous barn-raising dance, all leaping and axe-swinging, still turns up in film-school lessons on the movie musical. Bright, corny and bursting with energy, it is golden-age MGM at its most athletic, made for a cozy family night in. Stream Seven Brides for Seven Brothers online on iFILM.
