Synopsis
Igby Goes Down (2002) is a dark coming-of-age comedy you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Burr Steers in his feature debut. Kieran Culkin plays Igby Slocumb, a sharp-tongued seventeen-year-old whose only talent seems to be getting expelled from one prep school after another.
His father — played by Jeff Goldblum — is a charming schizophrenic who has been institutionalized for years. His mother, a perfectly brittle Susan Sarandon, runs the family with surgical precision and zero warmth. His older brother D.H., played by Ryan Phillippe, is exactly the kind of young Republican Igby despises most. When Igby lands in New York and falls into the orbit of Claire Danes and Amanda Peet, things get complicated in ways he didn't plan for.
The film draws comparisons to Salinger's Holden Caulfield — same rage, same wit, same contempt for a world built on money and bad faith. Stream Igby Goes Down (2002) online on iFILM.
