Bull Durham

Romance is a lot like baseball. It's not whether you win or lose. It's how you play the game.

About

Synopsis

Bull Durham (1988) is the smart, sexy baseball romance you can watch online on iFILM. It plays out in the bush leagues, at a scrappy minor-league club full of guys who either never made the majors or haven't gotten there yet.

Kevin Costner is Crash Davis, a been-everywhere catcher sent down to babysit a wild young pitcher nicknamed Nuke, played by Tim Robbins. The kid throws a hundred miles an hour and thinks with maybe half a brain. Between them lands Annie Savoy, played by Susan Sarandon, a die-hard fan who picks one player to mentor and bed every season. What follows is a love triangle where people talk about baseball with the same heat as they talk about sex.

Writer-director Ron Shelton actually played minor-league ball, and you feel it in every locker room, long bus ride and philosophical speech delivered from the mound. The screenplay landed an Oscar nomination, and the movie has sat near the top of America's best-sports-films lists ever since. Costner and Sarandon are ridiculously charming together, and the film coasts on conversation rather than on the games themselves. Stream Bull Durham (1988) online on iFILM.
