About

Synopsis

The Party (1968) is Blake Edwards' comedy starring Peter Sellers, free to watch online on iFILM. Hrundi V. Bakshi, a hopelessly clumsy actor from India, gets mistakenly added to the guest list for a lavish Hollywood producer's soiree, and the evening never recovers.

It starts on a film set, where Bakshi blows up an expensive fort backdrop in a single careless step. His name lands on an invitation instead of a blacklist, and soon he's wandering a mansion with a pool, a garden, and a malfunctioning automated bar. Every move he makes triggers the next small disaster: a lost shoe, a drowning waiter, a parrot in revolt, a roomful of guests politely pretending nothing is wrong.

There's barely a plot here. The whole thing rides on Sellers and pure physical comedy, with a good chunk of the gags improvised on set. Edwards built the film as one long, accelerating farce that opens quietly and ends in chaos. If you love silent-style clowning and cringe pushed to the edge of the absurd, this one's a treat.
