Synopsis
Calibre (2018) is a tense Scottish thriller you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Matt Palmer. Two old friends drive into the Highlands for a hunting weekend and never really come back.
Vaughn and Marcus arrive in a remote village where outsiders draw long stares. At first it's harmless enough: a pint at the pub, a dram of whisky, rifles, an early walk into the woods. Then a single shot goes catastrophically wrong, and a relaxing trip curdles into something the two men try, literally, to bury. What follows isn't a chase. It's a slow tightening noose of lies in a place where everyone knows everyone, with a local who starts to sense that the story doesn't add up.
Jack Lowden and Martin McCann carry the whole thing between them, and the silence here unsettles more than any score could. Palmer's debut won a BAFTA Scotland award and remains one of Netflix's most overlooked releases. A solid pick if you like bleak, suffocating thrillers about guilt and consequence.
