Superman: Doomsday

Superman: Doomsday (2007) is the animated DC action feature you can watch online on iFILM. It brings the famous early-1990s comic "The Death of Superman" to the screen — the one where the unkillable hero finally falls.

A LexCorp dig wakes a buried monster called Doomsday, a mindless killing engine that feels no pain and shows no mercy. As Metropolis is torn apart, Superman (voiced by Adam Baldwin) throws himself into a fight he may not walk away from. Anne Heche voices Lois Lane, and James Marsters plays a Lex Luthor who mourns his rival only until he grasps how much a world without Superman might give him.

Directors Bruce Timm, Lauren Montgomery and Brandon Vietti used this film to launch the DC Universe Animated Original Movies line, setting a darker, decidedly grown-up tone for the series. For comics readers it's a tight 75 minutes built around one of the biggest deaths in superhero history, with a surprisingly somber eye on grief, loss and what a symbol is actually worth.
