Nikolas's father (Michiel Huisman) joins a royal expedition into the frozen north, hunting for the fabled elf village of Elfhelm. Past the curtain of the northern lights wait not just elves but trolls, a cruel ruler, and the secret of who he is meant to be. A wonderfully odd aunt, played by Maggie Smith, frames the whole tale.

Director Gil Kenan adapts Matt Haig's bestseller into a cozy winter parable, stacked with British talent: Sally Hawkins, Jim Broadbent, Toby Jones and Kristen Wiig.
