Monster House

Monster House (2006) is Gil Kenan's animated family comedy-fantasy you can watch online on iFILM. Right before Halloween, three kids figure out that the creepy house across the street is alive — and no grown-up believes a word of it.

DJ has been spying on cranky old Nebbercracker's place for weeks. The house swallows basketballs, tricycles, even the neighborhood dog. With his buddy Chowder and a sharp girl named Jenny, he sets out to crack the secret behind those creaking shutters before someone really vanishes. The voice cast includes Steve Buscemi, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kathleen Turner, Kevin James and Jason Lee.

Built with motion capture, the film let actors perform live before their moves were mapped onto 3D characters. No synthesizer made the house groan — the team recorded an actual rotting old barn instead. Produced by Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis, it landed an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature.
