The Keeper of Lost Causes (Kvinden i buret, 2013) is the Danish crime thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Mikkel Nørgaard from Jussi Adler-Olsen's bestselling first Department Q novel.

After a raid goes badly wrong, detective Carl Mørck (Nikolaj Lie Kaas) gets shoved into a basement to file away cold cases where he can't cause trouble. He's handed an assistant, the easygoing Assad (Fares Fares). Out of boredom they crack open a five-year-old file: politician Merete Lynggaard vanished from a ferry, and everyone wrote it off as suicide. Carl doesn't buy it. The deeper he digs, the more it looks like she could still be alive, held somewhere, right now.

The film runs on two tracks, the investigation and the captivity, and that second thread is genuinely suffocating. Kaas and Fares clicked so well the series spun into several more films.
