Outlaw Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) learns that Rufus Buck, the man who murdered his parents in front of him as a boy, has been broken out of prison. Love pulls his old crew back together: sharpshooter Bill Pickett, the hot-tempered Mary Fields (Zazie Beetz), the quick-handed Cuffee, and more. Across the line waits Buck, played with cold menace by Idris Elba, and his enforcer Trudy Smith, brought to life by Regina King. Here's the catch: nearly every character borrows the name of a real figure from the American West, even though this particular story is pure invention.

Samuel stages it like a stylish, rhythm-driven music video, gunfights cut to soul and reggae, colors pushed hard. It's built for anyone tired of the genre's grizzled old templates and craving new faces and new swagger. Delroy Lindo and LaKeith Stanfield round out the cast.
