Synopsis
W. (2008) is Oliver Stone's biographical drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. It traces George W. Bush from a hard-drinking young man with no direction to the Oval Office and the choice to send troops into Iraq.
Josh Brolin doesn't do an impression. He plays Bush as a son who spent his life measuring himself against a powerful father he could never quite satisfy. The film cuts back and forth in time — the wild Yale years, finding faith, marrying Laura, the climb through Texas politics — and circles back to the tense war-room meetings that defined his presidency. The supporting bench is loaded: Jeffrey Wright as Colin Powell, Thandie Newton as Condoleezza Rice, Richard Dreyfuss as Dick Cheney, James Cromwell as the elder Bush.
Stone skips both the cheap shots and the apology. What grabs him is the family drama underneath the headlines — a son still arguing with his dad. Oddly enough, it reached theaters while Bush was still in office. Good pick if you like political portraits and actors disappearing into real people. Stream W. (2008) online on iFILM.
