Synopsis
Alexander (2004) — watch online on iFILM: Oliver Stone's $155 million historical epic starring Colin Farrell as the Macedonian king who pushed an army to the edges of the known world before he turned 33. Warner Bros. assembled one of the most expensive casts of the 2000s: Angelina Jolie, Val Kilmer, Jared Leto, Anthony Hopkins, Christopher Plummer.
The story is told through the memory of an ageing Ptolemy, who outlived his king by four decades and still can't make sense of the man. Alexander grows up between a brutal father, King Philip, and a mother, Olympias, who convinced him from childhood that he was born of gods. Eight years of marching east: the Persian empire broken at Gaugamela, then deserts, mountain passes, and the rivers of India. Jared Leto's Hephaistion is the one person Alexander never doubts.
Stone cut the film at least three times after its 2004 release — the theatrical version runs 175 minutes, later cuts reshaped the structure considerably. The director's cut is widely considered the more coherent version. Stream Alexander (2004) online on iFILM.
