Del has been worn down for years — by war, by his past, by the habit of bending the law for his own. Jeff Daniels plays him with no heroic shine: a tired man caught between his conscience and his heart, losing on both ends. Maura Tierney is Grace, mother of the accused kid. Around them sit shuttered factories, empty streets, and people making bad choices out of despair rather than malice. Who to trust, who to protect, what silence will cost — none of it has a clean answer.

The series adapts Philipp Meyer's novel and rides the slow, heavy rhythm of a Rust Belt town where the economy caved in before the people did.
