About

Synopsis

Career Opportunities (1991) is a comedy-romance you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Bryan Gordon from a John Hughes script. Town liar Jim Dodge lands the night-janitor gig nobody else wanted at the local Target — and turns the empty store into his personal playground.

Music cranked, roller skates on, soda and snacks for the taking: the perfect shift, until Jim realizes he isn't alone. Josie, daughter of the richest man in town, dozed off in a fitting room and is now locked in overnight with the boy everyone writes off. She's tired of being everyone's pretty prop; he's tired of nobody believing a word he says. One night behind the alarmed doors, two near-strangers bicker, scheme, and let their guards down.

Frank Whaley and a teenage Jennifer Connelly carry the whole thing on banter and chemistry across a single fluorescent-lit set. At 83 minutes it's slight on purpose — a small, sweet late-night romance with Hughes' soft spot for misfits all over it. Watch Career Opportunities online on iFILM.
