Synopsis

We're No Angels (1989) is a crime comedy from director Neil Jordan, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Two convicts break out of prison and run for the Canadian border, with nothing to hide behind but a pair of priest's cassocks they grab along the way.

Robert De Niro and Sean Penn play Ned and Jim, a couple of crooks who can't recite a prayer or hold a rosary right, yet a small town mistakes them for the holy men due at its religious festival. The longer the act runs, the harder it is to walk away. Demi Moore plays a struggling single mother who makes one of the fugitives wonder whether going straight might be worth the risk.

David Mamet wrote the screenplay, loosely spun off an old play and the 1955 film of the same name. Jordan shoots the rain-soaked border town like a stage for a fable about grace landing on the wrong men. It's an odd, warm little movie where two liars accidentally grow into the part.
