TV journalist Deborah Ballin (Lee Grant) is outspoken on air about feminist causes, and that makes her a target. Colt Hawker (Michael Ironside), a violently misogynistic killer, breaks into her home. She barely survives and lands in hospital. Hawker finds out she made it — and follows her there.

Ironside plays Hawker without any supernatural angle, just flat, grinding malice the film never tries to explain. Confining most of the action to a hospital gives the movie its real unease: anyone in scrubs could be him, and Deborah has nowhere to go. William Shatner appears as her producer.
