Spawn (1997) — watch online on iFILM — is HBO's adult animated series based on Todd McFarlane's comic book, running three seasons between 1997 and 1999. Keith David voices the title character.

Al Simmons is a black-ops soldier murdered by his own partner on orders from their corrupt superior, Jason Wynn. He cuts a deal with the demon Malebolgia to return to Earth and see his wife Wanda — then comes back five years later, burned, armored in living hellspawn material, to find Wanda has remarried his best friend. Now Al is trapped between Heaven and Hell as a weapon neither side intends to release.

The animation runs deliberately harsh for its era, and the show picked up multiple Emmy Awards during its run. For fans of McFarlane's original comics it holds close to the source in tone and darkness. Stream all episodes of Spawn online on iFILM.
