Scarlett (Season 1)

Scarlett (1994) streams online on iFILM — a four-part CBS miniseries directed by John Erman, adapted from Alexandra Ripley's 1991 novel, itself a sequel to Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind. Joanne Whalley and Timothy Dalton head a cast that also includes Sean Bean, Ann-Margret, Colm Meaney, Melissa Leo, and Annabeth Gish.

With Melanie Wilkes gone, Scarlett O'Hara decides Rhett Butler is still worth fighting for. The chase takes her from Tara to Charleston to Savannah and all the way to Ireland, where she uncovers the O'Hara family's origins. The miniseries ran in four installments on CBS in November 1994, co-produced across the United States, Germany, France, and Italy.

Whalley's choice not to echo Vivien Leigh is what keeps this from feeling like an imitation — her Scarlett is harder, war-worn, and less easy to root for, which is exactly right for where the story picks up. Watch Scarlett (1994) online on iFILM.
